Roy Stephenson was a right back formerly of Fulham. He joined the club in the summer of 1903 with over 20 other players in a complete turnaround of squad personnel for the 1903-04 season. He was kept out of the first team, however, to Billy Orr and Ted Turner and made only one appearance toward the tail end of the season. The 1904 Fulham handbook said of him; 'He improved wonderfully last year and should with experience, develop into a great full back.' However, he never made another appearance for the first team and left after the 1904-05 season.
Career[]
Before Fulham[]
Roy was one of the regular full backs for Chesham Generals from 1897 until he joined Fulham, and was awarded his Berks & Bucks County Badge on 5 December 1902.
Fulham (1903-1905)[]
Unfortunately for Roy, he only could manage one appearance in the first team in his two seasons at the club. Stronger defenders such as Billy Orr, Ted Turner, Harry Ross and Jimmy Sharp kept him out of the side despite reports that he was an adequate player.
After Fulham[]
Roy joined the newly formed professional club Southern United in May 1905, but the club slowly went into decline and they were reinstated to amateur status in 1907. He returned to his former club Chesham Generals in 1909 where he continued to play until retiring from what we can gather. According to the 1911 census, Roy was a Brush Borer and he was living in Chesham.
