Csaba Somogyi was a goalkeeper, formerly of Fulham. He was signed in the summer transfer window of 2011 on a free transfer by the then new manager Martin Jol. Signed as a backup goalkeeper, Csaba never played for the first team but made the bench on three occasions.
Before Fulham Edit
Csaba played for several Hungarian teams before his move to England, and it was whilst playing for Rákospalotai that Martin Jol had shown an interest in signing him for Ajax. He had a trial at the Dutch club but ultimately did not sign, with Jol quoting “It was at Ajax he came in and the goalkeeping staff said he was a terrific keeper, but I had four goalkeepers and there was no possibility then"
On 11 July 2011, Csaba was signed on a free transfer after a short trial at the club, on a one-year contract with an option of an extension of a further year. Signed purely with the intention of being a backup goalkeeper, he never made a first team appearnace in the two years at the club and spent 2011-12 and most of 2012-13 with the Reserve / U21 teams. He was usually fourth choice in the 'keepers pecking order behind Mark Schwarzer, David Stockdale and Neil Etheridge though he did make a few appearances on the substitutes bench. The only league outing for him was on New Years day 2013 in the 2-1 victory away at West Brom.
He was sent out on loan to Conference side Dartford in March 2013 for the remainder of there, after another Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli had been recalled from them. His contract was up in July 2013, and he was released along with eleven other players.
